They did... and CBS radio still does! WBBM radio in Chicago still does that "BONG" at the top of every hour. WGN Radio has their own distinctive sound at the top of every hour as well. Both sounds have been around for decades.

Always liked the 1976 opening of the show. Remember when Brett, Charles, Richard, Gene & Johnny Olsen greeted "Good Morning Captain" with the Match Game 7X opening?

Funny how all those kids' shows had one character who was only ever seen by one of the other characters. On "Sesame Street" it was Mr. Snuffleupagus, on "The Polka Dot Door" it was the Polkaroo, and on "Captain Kangaroo" it was the Little Marching Band.
