its difficult to say who influenced who but the beatles were around before floyd and i see alot of similarities between the beatles sound and syd's piper at the gates of dawn etc. I find it difficult to think the Beatle's were influenced by Pink Floyd when they were one of the most influential bands in rock history.

there is documentary on the dark side of the moon album here in youtube, where waters gives some hints about this lyrics in particular. recall that lyrics means whatever you are able to come up with, and so a means to discover your own truth, which is enlightening...
